Liang Shuming (1893-1988), Chinese thinker, educationalist, social activist, and one of the early representatives of modern Neo-Confucianism. Guy S. Alitto received his Ph.D. degree from Harvard University, where he also taught before taking a position at the University of Chicago. In 1980 and again in 1984, at Liang Shuming's invitation, he conducted a series of interviews with Liang in Liang's Beijing home.
